Rebecca Monks, Writer
I am an author, playwright, journalist and arts communications professional.
I was born in Warrington, where I lived until the age of 18. I have an MA (Hons) in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh, where I also studied Creative Writing.
I am currently working for Creative Scotland. In the past I have worked as an arts correspondent for BBC Scotland, The Guardian, The i, The List, The Scotsman, The Sunday Times, Scotland on Sunday and more.
I won the Allen Wright Award in 2016 for Excellence in Arts Journalism.
I have had my creative writing published widely. Short stories have appeared in The List, Luna Luna, Freak Circus and on the Scottish Book Trust website. I have read my work at The Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival, Absent Friends Festival, the Edinburgh International Science Festival and at Summerhall as part of the Marbles magazine launch. In 2016, I was shortlisted for the Scottish Book Trust New Writers Award.
I have had two plays performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe – Scour, which earned several five star reviews and was named “one of the best things on the Fringe” – and Tyke, which opened on the West End in London.
