My name is Rebecca Monks, and I am an author, playwright, poet and journalist based in Edinburgh.

After getting an MA (Hons) in English Literature at Edinburgh University, I graduated to a job on The Scotsman‘s digital desk, where I was an all-purpose Online Journalist. I also worked for Scotland on Sunday as an Arts and Features Writer, before moving onto to The List, where I was a Content Executive, News Editor, Supplement Editor and Social Media Manager. I left The List in 2016, and started working as a freelance journalist. My clients include BBC Scotland, Skyscanner, The I and more. I currently work as a Digital Communications Officer for Creative Scotland.

I have had two plays produced and performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe – Scour and Tyke. The former received numerous five star reviews, and the latter transferred to London’s West End. I regularly perform my poetry at spoken word nights such as Inky Fingers, Blind Poetics and FREAK Circus, and I have read short stories at the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival, Absent Friends Festival and more.

I am currently working on my debut novel, and you can sometimes find me chatting too much on BBC Radio Scotland.
